Lehnert-Veit is a family owned winery that dates back to 1653. Actually in its 9 th generation, the operation is run by Erich Lehnert and assisted closely by his son Peter. The winery is located in the town of Piesport in der Bernkastel Area in the well known German wine growing area, Mosel. Their 7 ha. vineyards are planted mainly with Riesling but there is also a small proportion of Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc planted and lately it has been added Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
The winery is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring, an association of the top wine estates of the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer river valleys and the oldest wine Auction Company in this growing area.
The most famous of Germany’s 13 Qualitätswein regions; Mosel is also the third largest in terms of production. It follows the path of the river Mosel, and it is known for its steep slopes overlooking the river, on which the vineyards are planted. This slopes are very effective in optimising the vines’ exposure to the sun, facilitating the ripening of the grapes.
Piesport is a small town on a sharp bend in the Mosel river in the Mosel wine district of Germany. The town of Piesport contains the ideal sites for wine growing, a steep amphitheatre facing south. The name of the slopes flanking the Village: Goldtröpfchen ( little drop of gold), is a splendid south- facing site protected from winds by its location on a loop in the river, the soil is quite complex, compose of quartz with stony clay and slate, rich in iron oxide, it is famous for gently honeyed wines, with great fragance and very mineral in character, here half the wines are classified as great growth and the other half as first growth. The vast plantation across the river is known as Piesporter Treppchen.
Spätlese: literally means late harvest, wines of higher quality harvested at the end of the autumn, from grapes which have been allowed to ripen longer than usual, increasing the intensity and the flavors of the fruit.
Notes: Drinking beautifully now through 2030
