Production: A Terroir wine sourced from 100% Grenache old vines growing on chalky soils. It belongs to a series of four wines which have been elaborated exclusively with the Grenache variety, each sourced from four different types of soil from the Capçanes district: panal, llicorella, calissa and argila. The Calissa as its name says, comes from a plot made up with chalky soils, a solid, soft rock which breaks down easily, free draining, hold little water and dry out easily forcing the roots to dig deep down in search of water and nutrients. The soil with less acidity and here the Grenache obtained is more fragrant and delicate.
Hand harvested during the middle of september, the wine has fermented at controlled temperature of 24º-28º in 500 L. French oak barrels. Aged during 6 months in medium-light toasted new French oak barrels of 228L. Light filtration. Production of 2000 Bottles.
Founded in 1933 by 5 families from the village. Who together established a cooperative that would handle large quantities of grapes economically and efficiently. The cooperative wears the name of the village where it is located: Capçanes, a village hidden away in the Priorato hills inland from Tarragona and with a long wine growing history.
The company was reinvented in the 1990s as an independent company with its original members as shareholders, today they have around 130 members and they produce a large selection of good quality wines including the well-known Peraj Ha’abib – a Kosher wine- under the appellation of Montsant.
