Production: Made with impeccable care, it exibits an amizing depth, concentration and complexity. A blend of two of the most representative autochthonous grapes from Priorat, Grenache and Carignan selected from very old vines of over 80 years of age. The wine has aged during 24 months in 100% new French Allier oak barrels. The wine has not been filtered or clarified. Bottled in May 2003 with a production of 4600 bottles.
Since 1978 Pere Sangenís and Conxita Vaqué are making wines in Porrera, combining the tradition with the new ways. Today María and Núria Sangenís, their two daughters, have also joined the team who, alongside Pere, share the responsibility of producing the great wines.
The vineyards are located in the district of Porrera, in the family owned lands since before 1700, within the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin, on terraced hillsides, formed by the famous “llicorella” (slaty schist land). Very poor land combined with a dry climate ( 550 mm) provides minimal production and therefore maximum quality.
Tasting Notes: The Clos Monlleó Gran Reserva comes from very old vines. It displays a mature, roundly, developed classy wine. Good concetration of mature fruit with minerals and spices. Round in the mouth, beefy, well integrated soft tannins with a smooth long finish.
Notes: Beautifully drinking now with a good potential for ageing
