El Nido is a singular wine with exceptional flavour and richness, it is also delicate, balanced and very elegant. It is made following a careful selection process using low-yielding old Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted 25 years ago.

Production:

The best grapes are selected at the sorting table and vinified separately. The wine is aged for 24 months in French and American new oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

Great aromatic complexity with great concentration and volume. Very intense and forward with scents of blueberry, spices, smoky notes, tobacco, and licorice. Full-bodied with candied dark fruit, creamy oak, and a lovely spicy and juicy finish.

Notes:

Needs a couple of hours to breathe, so decanting is recommended. Should develop nicely and will improve with some time in bottle.

Bodegas El Nido, founded in 2002, is a joint venture between the Gil family, well known in the region for their wines, wine trader Jorge Ordoñez, and famed Australian winemaker Chris Ringland, who at the same time oversees the winemaking at the winery.

It is located in the Valle de la Aragona, inside the Murcia district of Jumilla. The vineyards, which total 64 acres of old monastrell vines and 45 acres of cabernet sauvignon, are located on smooth hills overlooking north. Here, the tenacious vines survive on stony, sloping hills where they rarely receive any rain and produce intense, impetuous fruit that will mark the character of the wines.
