Production: From the 2015 vintage, Pago de Carraovejas abandons the traditional classification of Crianza to join the tendency, more and more preferred nowadays in Spain, which defends the origin and character of the wines over the standard regulations of the elaboration process. From this vintage the resulting wines reflect the terroir where they are coming from and the essence of the winery, making them unique wines with their own character and personality.
It is made with grapes sourced from vines planted between 1988 and 2011 growing on chalky soils. The grapes are carefully selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel vats and French oak barrels using autochthonous yeast and bacterias. Aged around 12 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak barriques. Bottled by gravity using selected natural cork stopper.
Pago de Carraovejas was founded in 1988 and since then has quickly established a reputation for elegant, good quality wines. Its vineyards are situated on a steep hill over the Duero river at an average altitude of 850 metres above sea level. The wines are produced with the most advanced techniques, totally respecting the values of nature and of the expression of the terroir, throughout the winemaking process from the grape harvest down to the bottling. Tasting Notes: Good concentration, expressivity, freshness and elegance. Ripe forest fruit, blackberry and plum combined with floral notes, sweet nose with a touch of vanilla oak. A very impressive, full flavoured wine, warm with good concentration of ripe fruit.
Notes: It is recommended to decant one hour before serving. Enjoy it over the next 8 - 10 years. It will gain more complexity with the time in bottle
