Raúl Pérez makes this wine at the Pérez’s family winery, Bodegas y Viñedos Castro Ventosa, situated in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, at the foot of the slope of the Castro. Founded by the Pérez family in 1752 the winery has since then remained in the hands of the family, 75 hectares of vineyards in Bierzo, planted with the indigenous red variety Mencía.
The new wine from Raúl Pérez elaborated in Bodega Castro de Ventosa is one of the first wines to be classified under the new official category of “Village Wine” created in the DO Bierzo. This is a blend of mainly Mencía grapes and others, including some white varieties, old vines sourced from different plots located around the village of Valtuille. Fermented separately with full clusters in 500-liter oak barrel. Aged in 255 and 500-liter used oak barrels for 1 year. Bottled May 2020.
Tasting notes: Beautifully perfumed aromas, infused with red cherry fruit and floral scents. Quite expressive, finesse and elegance with balance displaying a very fresh and cool style.
