Lousas Doad is a red village wine of very limited production from the Ribeira Sacra area in Doade, in the traditional Sil area, from the Atlantic wines of the Envinate project. The wine is marketed without geographical indication.

Lousas, the name in Galician to designate the type of "slate" soil that predominates in the Armandi sub-zone of the Ribeira Sacra, gives its name to the range of wines produced by Envinate in the Ribeira Sacra in collaboration with Galician viticultors. These wines are marked by the influence of the Atlantic and the slate soils in the singular vineyards where they come from.

It is a blend of Mencía with a smaller percentage of other native grape varieties, Merenzao, Alicante, and Bouschet, grown in slate soils from several vineyards in the town of Doade with old vines ranging from 23 to 65 years old. The soil of the lower vineyards is composed of schist, while the upper vineyards are composed of gneis and quartz.

Production:

Manual harvest with grape selection in the vineyard. Each plot is vinified separately in small, open plastic tubs with indigenous yeasts. Maceration of whole grapes and gentle manual pigeage.

Spontaneous fermentation in neutral French oak barrels.

Aged for 11 months on its own lees in neutral oak barrels of different sizes. No racking or addition of sulphites.

Tasting Notes:

Clean and bright, cherry red in colour. Elegant and delicate, floral and perfumed nose with aromas marked by tipe fruit (blackberry, redcurrant) with herbal and spicy touches (liquorice, oregano)

Warm and juicy on the palate. Well structured with soft tannins, and a persistently long aftertaste.

THE PROJECT

Envinate is the venture of four friends who, after studying enology together, embarked on a project that was unique to them. Currently, it has established itself as a solid and dynamic project with great recognition and prestige for its "Terroir" wines, both nationally and internationally, which are highly sought after for their excellent value for money.

Following their passion and ideals and with a lot of work and their own expertise, they have proudly created a range of honest, authentic wines from distinctive areas, mainly in the area of Ribera Sacra and also the Canary Islands, always working with the local varieties to create wines that speak of the terroir where they come from.

They work in a natural style, using no chemicals in any of their vineyards; all grapes are hand-harvested' and using wild yeasts. Sulfur is added in those cases where it is needed, such as during bottling and aging in old barrels and concrete vats.
