Tasting Notes

Perfumed nose of candied red and black fruits, quite mineral and spicy, displaying balsamic notes and a floral touch. On the palate, elegant blackberry flavours with marked mineral and spicy notes, smooth texture, good acidity, and mature tannins, finishing long.

THE WINERY

Abadia Retuerta is located in the municipal locality of Sardón del Duero, in the province of Valladolid, but just outside the D.O. Ribera del Duero. It was once part of the Vega Sicilia estate, which has been owned owned by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis since 1996. Abadia Retuerta has been splendidly revitalised and has managed to establish itself as one of the top reference wineries in the area.

The winery owns 700 hectares, of which 210 hectares are planted with vines. These vines are dispersed over a total of 54 small plots over the north-facing slopes, planted on a wide diversity of soils, from the riverbanks up to an altitude of 850 m above sea level, producing a variety of different quality vines with an average age of more than 20 years.

Each plot is controlled, treated, and vinified separately in order to truly reflect the terroir characteristics of each site in each wine.
