Production: This exceptional 2005 vintage was elaborated by Stephane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont, a harmonious blend of the Merlot, main grape variety of Château Pavie-Macquin with the Cabernet Franc, sourced from their 15 ha. of outstanding terroir located at the top of the plateau St-Emilion at an altitude of 75 – 100 metres, the vines are old, with an average age of about 40 years, growing on a complex terroir, comprising of 9 different types of soils, based on chalk rock with its strong clays, which gives the wines their extraordinary strength, body and generosity. The wine is organically farmed, practising sustainable viticulture, aged mostly in new French oak for an average of 18 months. The result is a stylish, supple, complex wine that matures excellently in bottle.
Tasting Notes: Deep mature black fruit aromas, plenty of ripe cassis, licorice, toasty and mineral notes, concentrated, with spicy and freshness. Classy huge tannins that will keep it going for some years to come and nicely balanced acidity. It has complexity, body and length. An impressive vintage, this 2005 Pavie Macquin remains as of today, the finest vintage they have produced yet.
Notes: It is recommended to decant. Drink 2015 -2030
