Vinification: Made from 100% Tempranillo from the estate’s younger vineyards, up to 20 years old. Traditional winemaking process with destemmed grapes. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank around 20 – 22ºC. Aged 9 months mostly in French oak barrels, and a small proportion in American oak barrels. Afterwards remains a minimum of 3 months in bottle before its release.
This great range of wines bear the name of their creator and owner Carmelo Rodero, fourth generation of a family of vine growers from Pedrosa de Duero, Burgos, in the heart of D.O. Ribera del Duero. During 14 years he sold grapes from his then first 30 Hectares to many top Ribera del Duero producers including to Vega Sicilia. Today working alongside his daughter Beatriz who is the winemaker, they produce a very personal range of wines sourced only from their own 120 Ha. of vineyards, different plots carefully and intelligently chosen, planted mostly with the native Tinta del Pais or Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The average age of the vine is 30 years, although the oldest are over 70 years old. Very much involved in innovation, Carmelo Rodero has one of the most pioneering vinifying process b gravity, he has patented and built an innovative system of rotating mechanized small tanks which take in the grapes by gravity avoiding pumping-over.
Tasting Notes: Fresh red fruit scented nose combined with floral aromas and vanilla hints. Round and matured elegant tannins with a pleasant lingering finish.
