Production: La Mar is made mainly of Caiño Blanco, a late ripening grape with thicker skin native to the northwest Iberian Peninsula. It goes through a long cold maceration process to extract the aromas fully, afterwards it is left with its lees to settle for around 2 months and another 6 months at low temperature until it is bottled in July 2015 and to continue ageing until its release, one and a half year later in December 2016.
Terras Gauda winery was founded in 1990, being now a fair size operation by regional standards. Both the winery and its 70ha. of own vineyards are located at an altitude of 50 – 150 meters above sea level, in a privileged landscape in the O’Rosal Valley, close to the mouth of the river Miño in the A Guarda Area, just across from its neighbouring Portugal. The vineyards enjoy an exceptional microclimate characterized by mild temperatures, very little frost and abundant rain fall.
Tasting Notes: Clean tropical aromas, ripe pineapple, lychee with a remarkable minerality, subtle earthy notes and aromatic herbs tones. Powerful body and volume, creamy textured with and excellent fruit and acidity.
Notes: It is recommended to let it breathe for a while before tasting. It will continue to evolve in the bottle for about 3 years gaining complexity and maturity.
Perfect match with fish and seafood, also with stews or roasted meats and spiced or slightly spicy hot dishes.
