Production: Mestizaje blanco is a Mediterranean Mountain wine produced under the appellation of Vino de España, 100% organic wine UE certified. A blend of mainly dry-farmed organic old vines of Merseguera, an indigenous varietal almost in extinction from their own vineyard La Calvestra at 900 meters above the Mediterranean Sea. The Merseguera vines were grafted into already existing Bobal vines of 40 years of age, which did not manage to ripe due to the high altitude, the soil is chalky on a sandy loam. Manual harvested, selected at sorting table in the winery and vinification of each variety separately. Fermentation at controlled temperature of 10º-16ºC with native yeasts and aged on its lees in stainless steel vats.
Mustiguillo is a family owned winery founded in 1999, Toni Sarrión is the creator and responsible of Mustiguillo, set to restore the importance of the Bobal grape variety in making wines, after being used mainly as a bulk wine grape, he has been working consistently and experimenting with the native Bobal producing high quality wines and also as a cuvee with other varieties. The bodega is set on an old country house, in el Terrerazo, in the Valencian highlands, a single estate-wine of 87 ha of vines and other crops, a gently sloped landscape north-south facing at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level with marked Mediterranean climate.
At Mustiguillo all the wines are produced from their own grapes, they apply sustainable wine growing and all the wines are organically farmed and duly EU certified ecological since 2007. The D.O.P. (PDO) El Terrerazo was granted in 2010, It describes all the practices that define the singularity of El Terrerazo recognizing it as Vino de Pago. As this, Mustiguillo is one of the Spanish wine producers associated to the GPE – Grandes Pagos de España, this association defends and promotes very high-quality single estate wine, wine that faithfully reflects the soils and climate where they come from, each showing a marked and unique personality drawn from a specific terroir.
