Production: Sourced from 15 years old Cabernet and Grenache vines and 60 years old Carignan vines, facing north-west, planted on terraces or steep slopes, at an altitude of 450 metres above the sea level. The plots are located around the Village of Porrera in the appellation of Priorat in the Catalonian region. Harvested manually; average production of 1 kg per vine. The wine has been aged for 14 months in 30% new French oak barriques and the rest in foudres.
Celler Cal Pla is a family owned winery, that dates back to 1814, since then up to seven generations have been growing vines and making wines. The name of Cal Pla is the name of the house and of the family, now passed on to the wines. All the wines are produced from grapes grown in their own vineyards and bottled in their Celler.
Tasting Notes: Intense aromas of red berry fruit, licorice, spices and mineral notes. Lovely intensity of sweet jammy black fruited palate. Medium-bodied palate with a velvety texture and lovely rounded tannin. Finishing long, displaying a marked minerality character.
Notes: Would improve greatly with an hour´s decanting 2 hours ahead. The wine has a very good ageing potential. This wine will evolve for 3 - 4 years and will drink well during the next 10 - 12 years.
