Production: Since the end of the 70’s Enrique Mendoza has been making wines from his own vineyard, in Finca Chaconero, situated in Villena (Alicante) where the plants are growing with an environmental friendly technique, without using herbicides or insecticides. Enrique Mendoza is one of the Spanish wine producers associated to the GPE – Grandes Pagos de España, this association defends and promotes very high-quality single estate wine, wine that faithfully reflects the soils and climate where they come from, each showing a marked and unique personality drawn from a specific terroir.

Estrecho is a single-vineyard wine, 100% Monastrell, comes from a single estate “Estrecho de Pipa” in the village of Villena, from very old vines of over 70-year-old growing on rich sandy soils at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. It has fermented in small lots in square vats using autochthonous yeast and aged during 15 months in French Oak Barrels. www.bodegasmendoza.com

Tasting Notes:  Marked Mediterranean herbal notes like thyme and quite mineral. Full bodied, dark fruits, black pepper and toasted notes. Mineral, fine tannins quite elegant and intense. Great expression of Monastrell. Long and warm finish.

Notes: It will evolve nicely in bottle. Drink nicely up to 2028.
