Winery:  Celler Cal Pla

Region:  Catalonia (D.O.Q. Priorat)

Vintage: 2013

Bottle:  75cl

Grape Varieties: 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan

Type:  Red wine, oak aged

Alcohol Volume:  15%

Serving Temperature:  16º - 18º

Production:  Sourced from a 100 + years old vines, facing south, planted on terraces or steep slopes at an altitude of 500 meters above the sea level. The plots are located around the Village of Porrera in the apellation of Priorat in the Catalonian region. Harvested manually at very low yields; with only an average of 0.5kg per vine. The wine has been aged for 16 months in new French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes: Extremely complex and expressive nose showing good fruit, black cherry and black plum, spices and mineral notes.  Dense, mineral with a lovely intensity of sweet black fruited palate. Good character and expression of region and vintage.

Notes:  Would improve greatly with an hour´s decanting 2 hours ahead. The wine has a very good ageing potential. This wine will keep very well during the next 13 - 14 years and will gain even more complexity with the time in bottle.

Celler Cal Pla is a small, family-run winery, dating back to 1814. It is located in the village of Porrera, a small village in the heart of the highly acclaimed wine region of Priorat. Cal Pla is the name of the family and the house, which gives the name to the wines. They can be proud of their more than 200-year history, that has seen various generations working hard, growing vines and making wines, to pass on the legacy to their descendents. Today it is in the hands of the seventh generation, run successfully by Joan Sangenís, which is making an interesting range of wines, all produced from grapes grown in the family’s own vineyards and bottled in their cellar.
