Clos Alzina is a high quality wine of very limited production. The wine is made from very old Carignan grapes that were planted in 1939 at Finca "Mas Alzera" in Torroja del Priorat. Producing a low yield and planted on very steep slopes (50% gradient), the traditional "Coster" vineyard faces north and ha soils that are dominated by the characteristic "Llicorella" or slate.

Production:

Manually harvested and hand-sorted grain by grain. Fermented partly in clay and partly in oak. Aged for 12 months in 500-liter French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes: 

Black-colored, concentrated, and rich with an intense plummy nose, liquorice spice complemented by black fruit aromas. Perfect balance of acidity, subtle oak spice and chocolate flavors; perfect balance of oak and fruit.

Notes: It is recommended to let the wine breathe or decant before serving. Good aging potential.

THE WINERY

The Bodega Costers del Priorat is located in the municipal district of Bellmunt de Priorat, in the highly acclaimed wine region known as Priorat. The winery comprises 20 ha of vineyards, mostly planted with old Grenache and Carignan vines between 40 and 100 years old; it also has newer planted vineyards of Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards can be found on small, steep terraces; they produce very low yields, and the work is done entirely by hand.
