Doroteo comes from very old Tempranillo vines from the “Majuelo of Doreto” vineyard in Pedrosa del Duero, a small plot with vines planted in 1920 in very poor gravel soils with clay-loam.

The wine is a special tribute to all the winemakers, especially the grandfather, Doroteo, who represents the link to the origin of their history with his experience, tenacity, and passion for the vineyard.

Doroteo has an unusual balance between maturity and freshness, something that can only be obtained from the oldest and best managed vines. This together with its long aging in oak barrels and in bottle afterwards, gives the wine the elegance and power that make it so special.

Winemaking:

The grapes are harvested after a selection process. Fermentation at a controlled temperature with native yeasts in French oak barrels, submitted to pump-overs and phenolic control.

Aging for 36 months in 225-liter extra-fine grain French oak barrel, followed by another 24 months resting in bottle.

Bottled in March 2021. Limited production of 5450 bottles.

Tasting Notes:

A wine with great personality and concentration. It shows balance between maturity and freshness. Massive wine, power-finesse, a big range of nuances, ripe black fruit and damson fruit, sweet spices, and balsamic notes. Dry tannins, good structure, and a long, smooth finish.

Notes: Conserve in a horizontal position in a cool environment. Potential evolution over the next 25 years.

THE WINERY:

Pago de los Capellanes is a relatively young winery, founded in 1996 when Paco Rodero, the son of Doroteo Rodero, and his wife Conchita Villa, recovered the family vineyard, expanding the property by acquiring neighboring plots.

The winery is located close to the village of Pedrosa del Duero in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Region and its vineyards are divided into 35 parcels, from which their grapes are vinified separately. The soil is made up of clay and chalk. The vineyards are planted only with Tempranillo or Tinto Fino grapes, the variety indigenous to the region. They only harvest 5000 kg of grapes per hectare, well below the 7000 kg allowed by the Regulatory Council of the Ribera del Duero Region to guarantee the highest quality.
