Made with 100% Tinto Fino (the local name for Tempranillo grape) from low-yielding vines of approximately 15 years of age. Hand harvesting, meticulous grape sorting, and destemming before fermentation. Elaborated by gravity. Aged 6 months in American and French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes:
Impressive nose of blackberry fruit combined with notes of liquorice, mineral, and spice. On the palate, it's dense, with a sumptuous, creamy texture and sweet, spiced fruit. Nicely mature soft tannins on the finish.
Note: Drinking nicely over the following 4–5 years.
THE WINERY
Bodegas Vizcarra owns 35 ha of Tinto Fino vines and 1 ha of Merlot, as well as some other plots scattered throughout Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero that are planted with various other foreign varieties. In 1991, Juan Carlos Vizcarra, the actual proprietor of the winery, following in his father’s footsteps, took over the winery, making first young wines and later aged wines. In 2007, they started operating from their new facilities, where the whole process of elaboration and ageing is done by gravity, this way avoiding the use of electrical pumps in order to achieve a major concentration of aromas and much softer tannins. As a result, the wines stand out for their elegance and personality.
