La Garnacha de Mustiguillo is a wine of sustainable viticulture and limited production from high-altitude vines. As described by its creator, it can be considered a true survivor, as it grew up surrounded by Bobal vines, a single-vineyard wine made with grapes from dry-farmed vines planted in the 1980s on a very poor clay stone soil.

It has fermented with 20% full clusters and native yeasts in oak vats and matured for 10 months in French oak barrels

Tasting Notes

Marked Mediterranean character with intense scents of fresh red fruit combined with floral and forest herb notes. Lovely intensity of fruit on the palate, fresh and lively with fine tannins and acidity. Finishing long.

Notes: It will evolve nicely in bottle. Ecologic Wine, suitable for vegans.

THE WINERY

Mustiguillo is a family-owned winery founded in 1999. Toni Sarrión is the creator and responsible of Mustiguillo. His aim was to restore the importance of the Bobal grape variety in the wine making, after being used mainly as a bulk wine grape, he has been working consistently and experimenting with the native Bobal to produce high-quality wines as well as a cuvee with other varieties. The bodega is set on an old country house in el Terrerazo, in the Valencian highlands, on a single estate of 87 ha of vines and other crops, on a gently sloped landscape facing north-south at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level with a marked Mediterranean climate.

At Mustiguillo, all the wines are produced from their own grapes; they apply sustainable wine growing, and all the wines are organically farmed and have been duly certified ecological by the EU since 2007. The D.O.P. (PDO) El Terrerazo was granted in 2010, and it describes all the practices that define the singularity of El Terrerazo, recognizing it as Vino de Pago. As such, Mustiguillo is one of the Spanish wine producers associated with the GPE (Grandes Pagos de España), an association that defends and promotes very high-quality single-estate wines that faithfully reflect the soils and climate where they come from, each showing a marked and unique personality drawn from a specific terroir.
