Winery:  Bodegas Juan Gil

Region:  D.O. Jumilla

Vintage: 2021

Bottle:  75cl

Grape Varieties: 60% Monastrell, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.

Type:  Red Wine, oak aged

Alcohol Volume:  15.50% Vol

Serving Temperature:  16º-18º

Production:

Made mostly from Monastrell grapes sourced from old vines with very low yields, together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes that have been fermented separately by variety in small tanks of 5 tons. Fermented and aged for 18 months in new French and American oak barrels, afterwards it is blended and left to rest for several weeks before bottling.

Tasting Notes:

Attractive and intense aromas of ripe black fruit and a toasty and smoky nose. A very modern, nicely matured wine with some very ripe, almost creamy black fruits and some spicy flavours. Well-integrated oak and ripe, sweet tannins on the finish.

Notes: It shows great potential for aging. Drinks very well now and over the next 10-12 years. Matching perfectly with rice, all sorts of red and white meats, grilled, stewed, or roasted, poultry, smoked seafood, blue and cured cheeses, and casserole dishes.

THE WINERY

Bodegas Juan Gil is a family-owned winery that dates back to 1916. It was the third generation who managed to consolidate the winery with a reliable, efficient, and good-quality wine image that the present generation is working hard to preserve and further develop.

The wineyards are located northwest of Jumilla and consist of 350 hectares. Of these, 120 hectares surround the winery, and the rest are scattered in smaller parcels, always within the area called “Termino de Arriba”, a perfect zone for wine growing. This region is located at an altitude of 700–850 metres above sea level and has sandy, chalky, rocky soil on the surface and is very poor in nutrients. Monastrell is the main variety grown, which is native to Jumilla and perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions in this area, for which is used in all the wines produced in the winery.
