Masion Chapoutier is a leading producer and one of the largest landholders of Hermitage in the Northern Rhône, led by the winemaker Michel Chapoutier, the seventh generation in charge of this famous old firm founded in 1808. The company owns over 175 acres of vines in the Rhône Valley Apellations.

Michel Chapoutier is an outspoken follower and defender of biodynamic/organic farming with a commitment to always achieving higher and higher, which reflects in the actual quality of their wines, which has risen dramatically in recent years. He is also a firm believer in the "monocepáge", most of the red wines are made from 100% Syrah, the whites 100% Marsanne, and the 100% Grenache for the Châteauneuf du Pape.

La Bernardine is the name of Chapoutier’s estate in Châteauneuf du Pape, a 74-acre estate purchased in 1938 and planted with 100% Grenache, consisting of several parcels, including the oldest parcel with 90-year-old vines planted in 1901. All the wines are produced following and applying the biodynamic philosophy into the winegrowing techniques. The quality of this wine has increased with the work and input of Michel Chapoutier, who is a very good to excellent Châteauneuf du Pape.

Production:

La Bernardine is a great classic with the Chapoutier signature; its cuvée is mainly red Grenache topped up with Syrah and Mourvèdre, carefully selected at harvesting, following a traditional vinification in closed concrete tanks, and aged entirely in concrete tanks for 15 months.

Tasting Notes:

Deep ruby/purple colour, black and red fruit with a licorice, black-cherry/kirsch-scented nose, spicy, full-bodied, rich, and velvety. This wine is ideal for lying down. It will prove to be long-lived.
