It is elaborated by Niepoort Vinhos, a small independent family business since 1842, and is currently led by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the Niepoort family.  

Production: 

The grapes were sourced from selected parcels of low-yielding vineyards in Portugal's Douro region, considered one of the most promising wine regions. The average vine age is over 70 years old.

This is one of the most traditional of traditional LBVs, made from a selection of high-quality, full-bodied wines from a single year. Handpicked, the wine ages for 4 years in large wooden vats. 

Tasting Notes:

Deep colour and great concentration of dark and red fruits on the nose, as well as notes of pepper and dark chocolate. Palate with a silk texture, great concentration, and volume, displaying a firm structure of tannin and balanced acidity, which will allow the wine to mature for many years.

Notes:

It is recommended to decant the wine before serving. Can be enjoyed now and will develop more complexity with further cellaring for a few decades.

Serve with soft cheeses or mild blue cheese; it is the perfect companion to dark chocolate desserts or even a pepper steak!.
