Made up mainly from their own Riesling vines sourced from the coolest south-west-facing plots, together with a small amount of Albariño. The grapes, some of which were affected by noble rot, were manually harvested and hand-selected. Single-estate wine, partially fermented at low temperatures in carved stone vats from the 12th century.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of fresh fruits, lime, lemon, and green apple marked mineral and floral notes. Complex and elegant, with marked fresh acidity, firmness, good fruit, and mineral flavours. Long and smooth finish.
Notes: Will improve with some time in bottle. To be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.
THE WINERY
Castell d’Encus, the project by the winemaker and partner in Priorat’s Ferrer-Bobet, Raul Bobet, is located in the municipal district of Talarn, en el Pallars, in the DO Costers del Segre. This is a very privileged location at the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the far northeast of Spain, at almost 1000 metres of altitude. It is surrounded by forest with good exposure to the sun and soils very poor in organic matter. The estate owns 95 ha, of which 23 ha are under vines. There is a great respect for nature and for the environment. They only use organic fertilisers and natural products that are approved for use in organic agriculture, and they do not use any insecticides or fungicides.
