La Furtiva Vi de Vila is a natural white wine, fresh with a unique personality. It is produced using traditional, minimal intervention methods by Oscar Navas, the young winemaker behind the La Furtiva project in Vilalba dels Arcs. The wine is a beautiful blend of the region's traditional grape varieties, primarily white Grenache and Macabeo.
Vinification:
Manually harvested with grape selection. The whole grapes undergo direct pressing. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak and chestnut barrels. Aged for 6 months in French, Austrian and chestnut barrels and foudres.
Tasting Notes:
A natural, fresh white wine with a marked Mediterranean character. Pale in colour, the nose is dominated by notes of white fruits, green apple and peach combined with subtle citrus nuances. On the palate, it is lively, with a smooth, sweet-tasting texture, excellent acidity and a long, fresh finish.
Oscar Navas is the young winegrower and winemaker behind the La Furtiva project. Óscar gained valuable experience working at the well-known Mallorcan winery 4 Kilos, where the idea of launching his own venture began to take shape. The project is linked to his family origins in the village of Vilalba dels Arcs – his grandmother's birthplace – in the Terra Alta region.
In the early days of his project in 2017, Óscar made his wine at a friend's winery in Corbera d'Ebre, and it was there that his first vintage, a very limited production of white wine, was produced. Since then, he has continued to develop an interesting range of natural wines based on minimal intervention. He works with indigenous grape varieties, combining organic farming with biodynamic and regenerative practices.
His wines are marked by the Mediterranean influence and the local terroir, mainly consisting of "panal" soils, the signature terroir of the DO Terra Alta, which is characterised by its high sand content and low water retention, which forces the vines to struggle and have to dig deep to find the water; this results in low yields with small bunches of grapes but a great intensity of flavour.
