The Haart Goldtröpfchen Kabinett is a single estate wine (Grosse Lage); the grapes come from vineyards planted on clay slate soils on the steep south-facing slope Goldtröpfchen, in the town of Piesport.

Classified as VDP. Grosse Lage, a seal of quality for grand wines from great vineyards. They often come from world-famous vineyards that consistently produce exceptional grapes. They express the character of a singular site, the unique soil composition, and the skills of the families that have cultivated the vineyards for many generations. They are complex wines with enormous ageing potential. Comparable to Grand Cru in Burgundy.

Kabinett: Typically, sweet wines with good acidity; the wines are made from fully ripened grapes from the main harvest in September and are made in a light style.

Vinification:

Hand-picked grapes. The must is partially fermented with indigenous yeasts, going through a long and slow fermentation at cool temperatures. Bottled approximately six months after the harvest.

Tasting Notes: Dense, mineral-scented nose; ripe apricots and tropical fruits, honeyed ripe fruit, off-dry with refreshing acidity, balance between fruit, sweetness, and acidity.

Notes: Great as an aperitif and an excellent companion to Asian and spicy dishes. After 2 - 3 years of bottle aging, Piesporter wines are known for developing an even more lush bouquet, and they pair well with hearty dishes.

THE WINERY

The Haart family takes pride in being one of the oldest local winemaking families in this part of the Mosel. Weingut Reinhold Haart is without a doubt a privileged place on the Mosel’s riverbank, in the village of Piesport, in the very heart of the Mosel, where the Haart family has been producing wines since 1337, from grapes grown exclusively on their own estate in one of the region’s best vineyards.

Today, their 8 ha of vineyards on a diversity of sites produce a wide range of elegant and fine Riesling wines from the ripe fruit and its excellent terroir. Vineyards climb uphill in steep sites overlooking the river, exposed to the sunlight, and growing on slate-rich soils. Yields are kept low, and the fermentation takes place under cool conditions with natural yeasts either in stainless steel or in traditional oak barrels.

Their wines have a natural fruit sweetness and a great ageing potential.

The winery is a member of the Bernkasteler Ringan association of the top wine estates of the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer river valleys and the oldest wine auction company in this growing area.

Piesport is a small town on a sharp bend in the Mosel river in the Mosel wine district of Germany. The town of Piesport contains the ideal sites for wine growing, a steep amphitheatre facing south. The name of the slopes flanking the village: the single vineyard site, Goldtröpfchen (Little Drop of Gold), is a splendid south-facing site protected from winds by its location on a loop in the river. The soil is quite complex, composed of quartz with stony clay and slate, rich in iron oxide, and it is famous for gently honeyed wines, with great fragrance and very mineral character. In this region, half of the wines are classified as great growth, while the other half are classified as first growth. The vast plantation across the river is known as Piesporter Treppchen.
