Tournon Mathilda Rouge is a single varietal of 100% Syrah, sourced from selected vineyards. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel and concrete vats, where it will spend 12 months maturing before being bottled. The wine is vegan-friendly.
Tasting Notes: Dark ruby colour, classy black fruit, plum, cassis notes, and a peppery touch, round in shape, juicy content, and silky tannins.
Domaine Tournon is the name of the wines produced in Australia by Masion Chapoutier, a leading producer and one of the largest landholders of Hermitage in the Northern Rhône, led by the winemaker Michel Chapoutier, the seventh generation in charge of this famous old firm founded in 1808, owning about 175 acres of vines in the Rhône Valley appellations.
Michel Chapoutier is an outspoken follower and defender of biodynamic and organic farming with a commitment to always achieving higher and higher, which is reflected in the actual quality of their wines, which has increased significantly in recent years. He is also a firm believer in the "monocepáge", in which most of the red wines are made from 100% Syrah, the whites 100% Marsanne, and the 100% Grenache for the Châteauneuf du Pape.
His pioneering spirit drives him to explore further afield, and with this vision in mind, the Chapoutiers moved into Australia, recognising the enormous potential of the Syrah in the Victorian Pyrenees and Heathcote area. This excursion into Australia began in 2007 after purchasing 50 ha in the heart of the Victorian winemaking area, and here they launched their first Australian-produced wines from the Syrah grape. Under the name of Tournon Winery, all the wines are produced, following and applying the biodynamic philosophy to the winegrowing techniques.
