The new wine from Raúl Pérez, elaborated in Bodega Castro de Ventosa, is one of the first wines to be classified under the new official category of “Village Wine” created in the DO Bierzo. This is a blend of mainly Mencía grapes and others, including some white varieties from old vines sourced from different plots located around the village of Valtuille.

Raúl Pérez makes this wine at his family winery, Bodegas y Viñedos Castro Ventosa, situated in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, at the foot of the slope of the Castro. Founded by the Pérez family in 1752, the winery has since then remained in the hands of the family. It has 75 hectares of vineyards in Bierzo, planted with the indigenous red variety Mencía. 

Production:

Fermented separately with full clusters in 500-litre oak barrels. Aged for a year in 255- and 500-litre used oak barrels.

Tasting notes: Beautifully perfumed aromas, infused with red cherry fruit and floral scents. Quite expressive, with finesse and elegance, balance, and displaying freshness and a cool style.
