Florens is a pure Grenache red wine from a centenarian vineyard in the Capçanes area of the Montsant DO. This is a Grenache with a marked personality, superb elegance, and maximal varietal expression, which its creator, Josep Grau, has named after his mother as a personal tribute dedicated to her memory.
La Florens belongs to the range of wines from the personal project of Josep Grau Viticultors. The grapes are sourced from the 36 hectares of vineyards in which he works in the Montsant area, low-yielding old vines, predominantly red Garnacha and Samsó, between 30 and 80 years old and planted on slate and granite soil. The wines are made with little intervention by means of spontaneous fermentation and indigenous yeasts.
Production:
The grapes come from very old vines located at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level in clay-limestone soil.
The grapes undergo an exhaustive selection process both in the vineyards and the cellar. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out in cement vats and in 2500-litre Austrian oak foudres. Aged for 14 months in foudres.
Tasting Notes:
This is a wine of great complexity, with good acidity, elegance, and finesse. Very expressive nose that captures the Garnacha varietal. Ripe red fruit-scented nose, spicy with undertones of light floral and Mediterranean herb aromas.
On the palate, it is fresh and fluid, with a nice velvety texture, tasty, mineral, juicy red fruit, and round tannins, with well-integrated oak.
