The Balvenie Distillery is located in Dufftown, at the very heart of Speyside, in the Scottish Highlands. It dates back to 1892, when the work to convert an eighteenth-century mansion into the actual distillery began. Being owned and managed by the same independent family company for five generations, it has undergone little alteration over the years and remains totally dedicated to the traditions, care, and craftsmanship of malt whisky making. The distillery still grows its own barley and malts in its own traditional floor maltings, and it still has coopers to tend all the casks and coppersmiths to tend the stills.

The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12-year-old single malt that acquires its complex yet rich and smooth taste from its maturation in two different types of oak casks, carefully selected by their award-winning Malt Master, David Stewart.

Over its period of maturation, it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first-fill European oak sherry cask. The result gives it a smooth and mellow taste with beautifully combined flavours – nutty sweetness, cinnamon, spiciness, and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry – and a long and warming finish.
