The Malvasia de Sitges is a sweet liqueur wine quite traditional of the Catalan coastal town of Sitges. Despite having a very small production, this dessert wine has become extremely well-known and esteemed locally.

It is elaborated by the Cellar de l’Hospital de Sant Joan Baptista in Sitges, protectors of the historic legacy that represents the Malvasia of Sitges, continuing with the preservation and cultivation of the vines donated to the local foundation of the hospital by Sitges resident Manuel Llopis i Bofill with the sole condition that they will continue to cultivate the vines from the 2.5 hectares of the vineyard donated to them.

The Mistela de Sitges is a late-harvest style wine allowed to ripen for an extra length of time on the vine to achieve this extra level of sweetness. It has aged in chestnut barrels for 4 to 5 years.

Tasting Notes:

Sweet and quite aromatic, with a good complexity of aromas, displaying notes of mature fruit, fragrant Mediterranean herbs, and dry toasted nutty fruit. Freshness and good acidity.

Note:  Ideal with desserts.
