Schloss Gobelsburg, a Cistercian monastery, is one of the oldest wineries in the Austrian Danube area, dating back to 1171. It comprises of 35 ha. with a splendid location in historical vineyard sites around the castle. All the vineyards are located on slopes and terraces around the valley of the river Kamp. Schloss Gobelsberg specialises in Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The winery is a member of the association “Österreichische Traditionsweingüter” (association of Austrian traditional wineries).

The grapes have been sourced from a single vineyard, cru (Ried), Renner, situated on the slope of the Ried Gaisberg Riesling terraces. Here, the soil structure is deeper and provides the vines with more water retention. Old vines of about 55 years of age. Matured in an Austrian oak cask of 2500 litres.

 

Tasting Notes: Great fruit intensity on the nose with nutty touches and citrus notes. Rich, juicy, full-bodied and creamy-textured, intense fruit flavours with a touch of sweetness, good acidity, and long with mineral and saline notes.
