Bodegas Mauro's white wine is a single varietal Godello, a wine with a marked Atlantic profile. The grapes come from different plots located in Villafranca del Bierzo and Valtuille de Arriba, at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, on very poor soils of sand, decomposed slate, and alluvial pebbles.

Production:

The grapes are delicately crushed and then macerated with skins at 8ºC for 12 hours. The fermentation takes place in 500-litre used barrels, where the wine remains in contact with its fine lees for 10 months until bottling in July 2023.

Tasting Notes: 

A wine with a marked Atlantic and mineral character, good aromatic intensity, notes of fresh acid fruit, subtle honeyed undertones, and herbal notes. Good acidity and persistence.

THE WINERY

Bodegas Mauro was founded in 1978 as the personal project of the well-known and reputable vigneron Mariano Garcia, who for 30 years was the technical director at Bodegas Vega Sicilia. Mauro is located in Tudela del Duero, a historic town in the province of Valladolid, in the heart of the Duero Valley but just outside the border of the Ribera del Duero Appellation, being the geographical delineation at the time the winery was set up, which is the reason why Mauro was excluded from the Denomination of Origin of Ribera del Duero.

Since then, Mauro has established a solid reputation and is probably one of the most famous producers in the area. It makes wines with a modern style designed to be full-bodied and elegant, which express the identity of the terroir, the characteristics of the grape varieties, and the personality of the winemaker.

The winery produces 3 wines: Mauro, the flagship wine; Mauro VS, with a longer ageing period and made from a selection of the best grapes sourced from 2 main parcels; and Terreus, made from centenarian vines sourced from one unique vineyard. The winery is incorporating sustainable viticulture with the objective of preserving the biodiversity and getting the maximum expression of the terroir. In the vineyard, no herbicides or pesticides are used.
