Marc Ripoll, a great supporter of traditional local Priorat grapes, is the only one so far to produce an excellent different wine from 100% Escanya-Vella, a historical old grape that has been growing in Priorat for centuries. Exclusive wine made from the family-owned old vineyards in Gratallops, planted on llicorella soils and farmed biodynamically.
Production:
Pellicular maceration. Fermented in Flextank eggs (porous polyethylene) at low temperature. Followed by ageing in the same deposits for 6 months on its lees.
Total production: 878 bottles
Tasting Notes:
Ripe fruit, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and citric and mineral notes. Mouthfilling, crisp acidity, length, and freshness.
Notes: Drinking beautifully now, although it is worth ageing.
THE WINERY
Cal Batllet produces wines exclusively from their own vineyards, planted mainly with the autochthonous varieties Grenache and Carignan on licorella soils.
From the 2009 vintage, Celler Cal Batllet elaborates all of the wines under the new appellation "Vi de la Vila" from Gratallops. The legislation introduced in 2009 by the DOQ Priorat recognises and protects each region’s different characteristics (viniculture, climate, soil, etc.) with the purpose of highlighting their particular characteristics.
