Bembibre is a 100% Mencia wine that bears the name of the village where it comes from, which is also the capital of Bierzo Aalto.
It comes from ancient vines that are over 80 years old, growing at 650 metres above sea level on gentle slopes of clay and slate soils.
Production:
Hand harvested bunch by bunch, fermented with natural yeast during 25 days at 28º with three manual plungings a day. Aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels with three rackings and another 24-36 months in bottle before its release. Bottled unfiltered
Tasting Notes:
Good complexity and deep nose, combining very ripe red and black fruit with toasted notes and touches of confiture. On the palate, is elegant, silky textured, and flavourful with mature black fruit, vanilla, spices and toasted notes. A warm and long finish.
Notes: It is recommended to decant the wine before serving. Drinking beautifully now and for 4-5 years.
THE WINERY
Dominio de Tarés was one of the newcomers in the area attracted by the Mencía grape’s potential. Established in 2000, its first vintage was in 2001, and since then it has not stopped producing wines with astonishing results, excellent wines from the autochthonous Mencía and Godello varieties, and elegant and complex wines reflecting the quality of the terroir where they come from.
Situated in the province of León, the heartland of the Mencía grape, the winery is surrounded by high-quality vineyards, old vineyards with vines between 40 and 90 years of age growing on a terroir with extraordinary potential in a privileged area, a mixture of slopes and terraces, and soil that is alluvial at river level and clay and slate in the slopes. They work 30 hectares of their own vineyards and about the same quantity of rented vineyards. At the winery, the work is carried out according to the philosophy of minimal intervention, keeping all interferences to a minimum in order to create more authentic, natural, and expressive wines.
