Bodegas Viñas Sastre was founded in 1992 by the Sastre family. The grapes were sourced from the winery's initial 23 hectares of vineyards located in La Horra, Burgos, at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level. They have actually expanded their vineyards to 45 hectares in the very heart of the DO Ribera del Duero, where they produce traditionally grown wines of the utmost quality and unique character.
Production:
Made from 100% Tinto Fino vines (the local name for the Tempranillo grape) from a selection of the best grapes from the vineyards in La Horra. Vines with an average age of 60 years, cultivated by hand without the addition of fertilisers, minerals, herbicides or insecticides.
The grapes are harvested by hand both in the vineyards and at the selection table in the winery. Aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrels (70% new).
Tasting Notes:
Cherry colour. Intense nose, ripe blackcurrant and cherry fruits, complemented by subtle touches of cocoa and spicy notes.
Rich palate of sweet, ripe cassis and mocha flavours. Full-flavoured wine, fine tannins with a concentration of black fruits, and fine toasted notes that go all the way to the finish.
