Celler Duran Álvarez has seen a new line of wines being launched by the new generation, his son, Josep Álvarez Duran Jr. While staying true to the values learned at the family winery, Josep introduces a fresh approach to stamp his own mark on the production of his most personal wines, expressing his own identity and style.

Production:

His first vintage, L'Autòctona de Porrera, is a single-varietal Carignan wine. The grapes come from younger vineyards of around 15 years of age and located in the Porrera municipal district.

Aged for 4 months in used French barrels.

Tasting notes:

Black and red fruit with violet touches, marked by a Mediterranean character with mineral undertones. It has a fresh, vibrant entry and a medium structure, leading to a long finish displaying a mineral sensation and lively fruit notes.

The Winery

Salustia Alvarez is the man behind the project of Bodega Alvarez Duran, a small family winery in Porrera, a village in the heart of the Priorat Region, the emblematic wine-making area in Cataluña. They produce small quantities of high-quality, singular wines from fruit sourced from very old vineyards inherited by their ancestors: two vineyards totalling 7 ha, located on the outskirts of the village, with vines growing on steep slopes and terraces on soil composed of the locally known as llicorella, sheets of slate stones; "El Fonellas", a tiny vineyard and home to the oldest vines, mostly Carignan, planted as far back as 1896, with vines holding on very steep licorella slopes with a drop of 44% and west-orientated; and "La Rápita" vineyard, where the vines are much younger, having been planted in 1996 and growing on slopes with gradients ranging between 21% and 52%.
