A red wine, 100% Garnatxa Peluda, sourced from low-yielding, 60-year-old vines planted on clay/slate soil in the slopes and terraces above the village of Bellmunt del Priorat.
Production:
The production is inferior to 500 g per plant, and all the processes are done manually from beginning to end.
The wine has aged for 13 months, of which the first 3 months are spent in amphora and the rest in a new and second-year oak barrel.
The production is very limited, just 1029 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Intense and rich with a complex bouquet, intense aromas of cherry fruit with a sweet aromatic herbal touch, juicy, with fig notes, and aromas reminiscent of honey and caramel toffee. On the palate is all silkiness, very delicate and harmonious, with great balance of power, firm with fresh structure. A wine with heart.
Note: With a good structure to age, it will improve in the cellar during the next 10–12 years.
En Números Vermells is Silvia Puig’s individual project; she is a young but very experienced winemaker with a formidable CV when it comes to winemaking and belongs to a new generation of winemakers in the Priorat. She makes amazing wines in small quantities and in a very artisanal way.
In 2008, she began her project by making just one single barrel in a small garage converted for this purpose in the village of Torroja; today, she has her own place in the village of Gratallops, where she produces the wines. All of the fruit is carefully selected from several plots staggered in costers (a Catalan word meaning steep slopes) and terraces with soils dominated by the characteristic “llicorella” or slate in various locations around the Priorat. She cultivates some plots with very old vines, some of which are 100-year-old vines, from which she produces her signature wine, "En Numeros Vermells Centenary Carinyenas".
