The Rosé by Bodegas Giol Porrera, the project of winegrower and winemaker Jonàs Macip, is 100% Merlot. The grapes are sourced from the terraced vineyards of Mas d'en Caçador, planted in 2000. The merlot variety made a strong impact in the Priorat during the 90s and, for many years, was a core component of many of the blends in the region's great wines.
Production:
This rosé wine is made exclusively from estate-grown Merlot grapes. The grapes are pressed directly, without skin contact, and fermented using yeast inoculation in a 1000-litre stainless steel tank. Aged for 2 months in 225-litre French oak barrels.
Bottled in June 2026. Limited production of 800 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
It presents an intense purple hue, unusually deep for a rosé with the soul of a claret. Quite varietal in character, it is remarkably refreshing, with excellent, well-integrated acidity and full-bodied with structure and maturity. Mineral notes combining with a subtly spicy undertone. Long finish, with a slightly bitter, food-friendly.
This young winery, Bodegas Giol Porrera, is the project of winegrower and winemaker Jonàs Macip, who, together with the full support of his family, has created a small family-run operation in the heart of the Priorat, in the village of Porrera, to elaborate their own wines from the grapes they have always grown and had previously sold to other producers. The winery was born in 2018, and their vintage was released to the market in 2020, in the midst of the difficulty and uncertainty that the pandemic times had brought.
