As Sortes is made from the indigenous White Godello grape sourced from a small, 4.5-ha plot in Bibei Valley at an altitude of over 600 metres above sea level. The grapes are between 35 and 90 years old, producing very low yields and growing on granite soils on terraced slopes.

Production:

Fermentation takes place in 500-litre French oak foudres, where it will age for 8 months on its lees.

Tasting Notes: Clean, fragrant nose; ripe white fruits; and citric notes displaying good minerality. Supple and soft-textured, with tropical flavours and a lovely herbaceous touch over a mineral background.

Rafael Palacios, brother of Spain’s well-known and talented winemaker Alvaro Palacios, began his new wine venture in 2004 in Valdeorras, in the municipality of O Bolo, a sub-zone of the Bibei Valley, in the eastern part of Galicia. He set his sights on the overlooked region of Galicia and purchased old Godello vineyards from old local growers. The Valley of Bibei is home to the production of quality Godello-based wines. The winery owns 21 ha of vineyards, which are divided into 26 different parcels and are primarily planted with the native Godello grape. The vines range in age from 6 to 90 years, most of them growing on terraced slopes.
