En Moviment A-Ancestral is a sparkling wine made using the ancestral method, 100% Morenillo, with grapes from the Obaga de Tomaset. A small estate of only half a hectare with young goblet-trained vines.
Morenillo is a recovered variety that, after the phylloxera, had almost disappeared from the vineyards because it is a grape variety that gives little colour, little tannin, and a lower alcohol content. Its recovery began at the end of the 1990s.
The Ancestral is a sparkling wine made under the ancestral method, a very old method that produces sparkling wines after a single fermentation. In the ancestral method, the must starts its fermentation in the tank, but it is bottled before finishing in order to complete the fermentation in the bottle.
Elaboration:
The wine is macerated with the skins in open barrels for 24 hours. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks until it reaches the optimum density for bottling, where it will finish the fermentation. Resting for 6 months with a subsequent manual disgorging. It has not been filtered, stabilised, or clarified, nor has sulphur dioxide been added.
En Moviment is the new and most personal project of the Celler Bàrbara Forès, led entirely by Pili Sanmartin Ferrer, the new generation of the bodega. She has created the series En Moviment (in movement), wines born of the freedom to create and experiment. The project is a voyage of learning and experimenting, which began in 2014 with her arrival at the family’s Celler Bàrbara Fores and is in continuous progress. It consists of a very limited production of small vinifications of ecological production and minimal intervention.
THE WINERY
Celler Bàrbara Forés is a family-owned winery that dates back to the 19th century. It is named for its original founder and winemaker, a pioneer of the 19th century, Bàrbara Forés (1825–1905), who, together with her son Rafael Ferrer, built the bodega and equipped it for bottling wine, which was something rare in that century.
Actually, the winery is in the hands of their descendant, Carmen Ferrer, and her husband, Manuel Sanmartin. They took control of it in 1994, restored it, and made it work again. Later in 2019, their daughter Pili Sanmartín joined the family business, bringing with her a fresh approach that encourages the dialogue of wine with the arts, which will be reflected in the new line of wines she produces.
