Lilla is the ancestral wine produced by Mas Foraster, a family-run winery located in the town of Montblanc, in the Conca de Barberà region. They have been making wine since 1998, and since the beginning, they have been committed to their own organic viticulture and limited production with complete control over the vineyard process. All of the grapes are grown on the Mas Foraster estate, which has been farmed organically since 2011 with a minimum use of sulphites.
Lilla Ancestral is a sparkling wine made using the ancestral method. Elaborated from local white and red varieties, a blend of 50% Trepat and 50% Parellada. The grapes are naturally and organically grown and certified by the CCPAE (Catalan Council of Ecological Production). It undergoes a single fermentation that is completed in the bottle.
The Trepat grapes are sourced from younger vines of about 10 years old at the Pou vineyards, located close to the winery and growing on soil composed of alluvial soils with pebbles and slate. The parellada comes from older vines at La Lilla in the Sierra de Miramas, at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level with clay-limestone soils.
The Ancestral is a sparkling wine made under the ancestral method, a very old method that produces sparkling wines after a single fermentation. In the ancestral method, the must starts its fermentation in the tank, but it is bottled before finishing so that the fermentation is completed in the bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Pale pink, coloured with fine, constant bubbles. Excellent balance, freshness and fruitiness. Displays aromas of red fruit combined with light citrus hints. Very fresh and enveloping finish.
