Winery:  Celler Cal Pla

Region:  Catalonia - D.O.Q. Priorat

Vintage:  2017

Bottle:  75cl

Grape Varieties50% Grenache, 45% Carignan and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

Type:  Red wine, oak aged

Alcohol Volume:  15% Vol

Serving Temperature:  16º - 18º

Production:  Sourced from north-west-facing 60-year-old Carignan and 15-year-old Cabernet and Grenache grapes, planted on terraces or steep slopes at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level.

The plots are located around the village of Porrera in the appellation of Priorat in the Catalonian region. Harvested manually; average production of 1 kg per vine. The wine has been aged for 14 months in 30% new French oak barriques and the rest in foudres.

Tasting Notes: Intense aromas of red berry fruit, licorice, spices, and mineral notes. Lovely intensity of sweet jammy black fruited palate. Medium-bodied palate with a velvety texture and lovely rounded tannins. Finishing long, displaying a marked minerality character.

Notes:  It would improve greatly with an hour of decanting 2 hours ahead. The wine has very good ageing potential. This wine will evolve for 3-4 years and will drink well during the next 10-12 years.

Celler Cal Pla is a small, family-run winery, dating back to 1814. It is located in the village of Porrera, a small village in the heart of the highly acclaimed wine region of Priorat. Cal Pla is the name of the family and the house, which gives the name to the wines. They can be proud of their more than 200-year history, that has seen various generations working hard, growing vines and making wines, to pass on the legacy to their descendents. Today it is in the hands of the seventh generation, run successfully by Joan Sangenís, which is making an interesting range of wines, all produced from grapes grown in the family’s own vineyards and bottled in their cellar.
