This Syrah-based wine is sourced from the oldest Syrah vines in Terra Alta, growing on calcareous soils in the municipal district of Gandesa, vines planted in 1991 by Josep Vicens Vallespí, fourth generation of the Vicens family, the first Syrah vineyards in Terra Alta.

Wine of limited production of 1200 bottles.

Production:

Aged for 15 months in French and American oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: A deep, dark cherry colour. Scents of ripe dark fruit, cherries and plums, lightly spiced and liquorice on the nose. Powerful deep wine with good concentration of red fruits, chocolate, liquorice hints, and slightly smoky notes. Firm yet velvety tannins, balanced and elegant.

Notes: Drinks nicely now and during the next 4 - 5 years.

Celler Josep Vicens is a small family-run operation in Gandesa, whose origins date back to the early days of the XIX century. The Vincen’s family, local winegrowers dedicated to selling wine in bulk, have passed on the operation to the current generation, who are committed to innovation, introducing new techniques, pioneers in the introduction of the Syrah variety in the area, and elaborating good quality wines.

Their brand name "Vinyes del Grau" comes from the family’s oldest plantation called "El Grau", where they grow mainly Syrah, used both in their young and aged wine. Their vineyards, extending over 17 hectares, are situated in the surroundings of Gandesa (Terra Alta); they are planted on diverse soils, although the main type is calcareous, very low in organic matter.
