A single estate, "Vino de Paraje" wine, a classification given to those wines coming from microplots and of minimal production, single-varietal wine sourced exclusively from own grapes, carefully hand-selected from a single estate, "Mas d’En Caçador", with vines of 120 years of age planted in costers (steep slopes) and llicorella soil. One of the first vineyards of the family that was grafted at the beginning of the 20th century.
Winemaking:
Destemmed and fermented, inoculated with selected yeasts in 1000-litre steel tanks with gentle pump-overs, and matured for 12 months in a new 300-litre French oak barrel.
Bottled in April 2024, with a production of 1010 bottles.
A wine to enjoy for the next couple of decades.
Tasting Notes:
Deep cherry in colour. Intense, persistent aromas of ripe red fruit, intermixed with the mineral notes from the licorella and the toasted notes from its time in the barrel. On the palate, it is complex and rich, with succulent fruit, a silky texture, and fine, soft tannins.
This young winery, Bodegas Giol Porrera, is the project of winegrower and winemaker Jonàs Macip, who, together with the full support of his family, has created a small family-run operation in the heart of the Priorat, in the village of Porrera, to elaborate their own wines from the grapes they have always grown and had previously sold to other producers. The winery was born in 2018, and their vintage was released to the market in 2020, in the midst of the difficulty and uncertainty that the pandemic times have brought.
