Calvario is the flagship wine of Finca Allende Winery, founded in 1995 by winemaker Miguel Ángel Gregorio. A single-estate wine of the highest quality sourced from "El Pago del Calvario" in Briones, La Rioja Alavesa, with vines planted in 1945 in loamy clayey soils.

Calvario has quickly positioned itself as a wine of reference to be taken into account for its elegance and complexity, a wine with a distinctive personality, which is the trademark of the man behind the wine, Miguel Ángel de Gregorio. It is produced in very limited quantities.

Production:

Made from 90% Tempranillo and complemented with Grenache and Graciano.

Harvested manually, followed by a careful sorting of the grapes at the winery. Whole de-stemmed bunches are macerated cold in French oak vats without crushing. Controlled fermentation at 28ºC for 14 days with 3 daily pumping-overs. It ages for 18 months in new French oak barrels, and it is bottled unfiltered and unclarified.

Tasting Notes: 

Intense red colour with a purple tone. Complex, elegant aromas of mature dark fruits, a concentration of rich plummy and cassis fruits with vanilla, spice, and toasted notes. Full-bodied, smooth, warm, and ripe, mature flavours with dense black fruit and spice, good concentration of fruit with silky tannins. Long finish with spicy and mineral sensations.

Notes: A wine with good ageing potential. A wine with years ahead of it.
