El Puntido has been made in underground cellars, where it has rested in optimal natural conditions. The grapes come from a single Tempranillo vineyard planted in 1975. Low-yielding. Grapes are carefully sorted both in the vineyard and in the cellar using a double sorting table.
Production:
Vinification is traditional, 100% destemmed. Malolactic fermentation in new French oak Bordelaise barrels on its lees for 4 months. Spent 18 months in new Bordeaux French oak.
Tasting Notes:
Intense aromas of ripe fruit: blackberry, dark cherry fruit, mineral, hints of sweet oak, and spicy nose. Elegant, full-flavoured wine, mouthfilling and rich, with a gorgeous creamy texture, well-integrated oak, and mature tannins.
Notes: We recommend decanting this wine two hours ahead. It is a wine with a long lifespan; it can be drunk now or through 2035.
THE WINERY
Viñedos de Páganos is a modern winery located in the mediaeval village of Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria, a privileged enclave due to its climatic and geological conditions. It is owned by the Eguren family and was founded in 1998. The winery is surrounded by the exceptional vineyard of El Puntido, a 25-hectare south-facing slope planted with Tempranillo vines in 1975 and situated at an altitude close to 600 metres. The soil is made up of franc-clay and calcareous-clay on a deep, rocky subsoil with a high mineral presence.
