A red wine of high expression and maximum quality. It is the flagship brand from the joint project in the DOCa Rioja of two worldwide renowned wine names, Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia.

From this collaboration, two great wines are born: Macán Clásico and Macán. The two wines coexist together and are treated exactly the same from the vineyards to the classification tasting. Then, the different wine batches of the vintage are separated according to their qualities, and two individual wines are created with different characteristics between them.

Behind its elaboration, there has been an intense process of selection, acquisition, and management of the 100 hectares of vineyards since 2004, when the project began, and with the first vintage released in 2009, this same rigorous care has been extended to the work in the winery. The results are elegant, harmonious wines that transmit both the authenticity of the terroir they come from and the joint vision that their creators have of La Rioja.

The Macán represents the most authentic and typical style of this prestigious region where it was born. A wine that at first appears more hidden and will need time to develop its full potential. It is all about finesse, elegance, complexity, and power.

Production:

Made from the single varietal Tempranillo. The grapes come from a careful selection of the oldest plots arranged on high-altitude terraces with poor, gravelly soils of clay-limestone composition. The average age of the vineyards is 40 years.

Strict grape selection at the winery in order to avoid overripe grapes. Very gentle fermentation with very gentle extraction of the press wine. Aged for 15 months in extrafine and fine-grain French oak. In this vintage, the impact of barrels was reduced in favour of foudres. Afterwards, it will rest in bottles until it is released onto the market.

Tasting Notes: 

A wine of high expression, full-bodied, juicy, and firm. It shows great elegance backed by the silkiness of its velvety tannins and marked minerality.

Notes: It is recommended to decant before serving. It has a greater capacity for ageing than its younger partner. It can be enjoyed now or kept for 10-15 years.
