Cellers de Scala Dei has passed on the winemaking tradition started by the monks of the Cartoixa del Prior de Scala Dei in the 12th century. They were the first to plant vines in the region and the pioneers in bottling the first wines in the DOQ Priorat. For this reason, the winery is an emblem of the Priorat.
The current owners took over in 1973, and Codorniu acquired a 25% stake by the end of 2000.

The wine was vinified partly with full clusters in concrete and partly with destemmed grapes in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts.

Aged for 24 months in 1400-litre foudres and 225-litre oak barriques.

Tasting notes: 

Delicious Grenache nose, ripe black fruit, plums, black cherries, and black currants with a touch of violets and a mineral-scented nose. Well-structured, complex wine with ripe fruit flavours, integrated oak, rounded and ripe, soft, and a light vein of tannin over violets and spicy notes.
