Red wine of great prestige for its superb quality and careful craftsmanship, born from the joint project in the DOCa Rioja of two worldwide renowned wine names, Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia.

From this collaboration, two great wines are born: Macán Clásico and Macán. The two wines coexist together and are treated exactly the same from the vineyards to the classification tasting. Then, the different wine batches of the vintage are separated according to their qualities, and two individual wines are created with different characteristics between them.

Behind its elaboration, there has been an intense process of selection, acquisition, and management of the 100 hectares of vineyards since 2004, when the project began, and with the first vintage released in 2009, this same rigorous care has been extended to the work in the winery. The results are elegant, harmonious wines that transmit both the authenticity of the terroir they come from and the joint vision that their creators have of La Rioja.

The Macán Clásico is more approachable and expressive, with a pleasant and gentle palate that reflects the freshness and fruitiness of the terroir.

Production:

Made from the single varietal Tempranillo. The grapes come from selected vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, in Rioja Alta. The vines are situated at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level with an average age of 32 years.

Fermentation takes place in barrels and in tanks. Gentle extractions. Aged for 15 months in extrafine and fine-grain French oak, mostly new and the rest in one-wine barrels. Afterwards, it will rest in bottles until it is released onto the market.

Tasting Notes: 

Classy-styled wine, a wonderfully balanced, elegant wine, with a deep and expressive character. Freshness and fruitiness on the nose, with aromas of ripe red fruits, blackberries and cherries especially, and hints of spice. On the palate, smooth and harmonious, superb mature summer fruit, and soft, well-integrated tannins.

Notes: It is recommended to decant before serving. Can be enjoyed now or kept for 10-15 years.
