Almirez is made after a careful selection of the best 100% Tinta de Toro grapes sourced from their own vineyards, with an age range of 15 to 65 years. Practising sustainable viticulture, being respectful of the environment with a minimum of intervention, and using only organic fertilisation.
Production:
Hand-harvested, followed by careful sorting of the grapes both in the vineyard and the cellar, yielding 18 hl/ha.
Vinification is traditional, 100% de-stemmed, and fermented using selected yeast from their vineyard at a controlled temperature of 25–27°C. Spent 12 months in barrels, 30% new French oak and 70% used wine barrels.
Tasting Notes:
Displays forward and mature black fruit aromas combined with notes of liquorice, violets, and cassis. Concentrated and structured, with beautiful balance with excellent fruit, good minerality, and well-integrated oak with silky tannins. Smooth and rich finish.
Teso La Monja marks the beginning of a new era for the Eguren family in the D.O. Toro, a land that enchanted them with its pre-phylloxera vines and deep-rooted vineyards. The Bodega elaborates wines that transmit not only the potential of the Tinta de Toro and the minerality of the soils but also the elegance, freshness, and finesse that are trademarks of all the Eguren family’s wines.
The Bodega owns 90 hectares of vineyards located in Valdefinjas, Toro, and Villabuena del Puente. The average vine age is about 50 years, with some of the vineyards reaching 130 years. They practise sustainable viticulture with great respect for nature and its surroundings, working with the plant’s cycles. Furthermore, they employ only organic fertiliser and natural products. Their aim is to obtain wines of the highest purity possible and to achieve the maximum expression of terroir.
